The average cost of production has been reviewed based on prices in the third week of June. There has been little change in feed price this month but the new average is now slightly lower at £256.50 per tonne. This is equivalent to £13.79 per bird, based on an average feed intake of 128g per bird.
There have been some increases in pullet prices this month and as a result, the average has been increased by two pence to £4.17 per bird. The end-of-lay hen price remains unchanged at 5 pence per bird.
Following all changes made to the figures this month, the average cost of production for free range now stands at £27.92 per bird inclusive of depreciation and interest. This is equivalent to a cost of just over 101 pence per dozen.
Average Free Range Egg Price
Whilst notice has been given of some future price rises, our average for the month is based as usual on actual prices reported and paid at present. On that basis, the average egg price calculated has increased slightly from 85.5 pence to 85.8 pence per dozen for average performance.
The calculated egg price for ‘high performance’ flocks is now 86.6 pence per dozen, based on an assumed 1% reduction in seconds compared to ‘average’ flocks.
