So we looked stuffed for a rise this year then.

Even if some producers leave the business. I know many who are sat with empty sheds waiting for a price rise. When the rise comes it will quickly go back down again.

Lets hope these will be better attended than the last round of producer meetings, Free range egg producers now is your chance to air your views and get something done about the current injustice operating in the industry.

Now is an ideal opportunity to promote UK free range eggs as the cage sector is in disaray, We must reassure consumers that UK free range eggs are the best option and affordable and are produced with no cages, albeit enriched or not in sight. To hear that major packers are cascading free range eggs into enriched at this time means our marketing of free range isnt working.

Come on Robert we know all this
When are you going to start directing some policies that are going to help the plight of the FREE RANGE producer whose businesses are currently being crippled by unsustainable egg prices that are being kept low by the monopoly operating in the egg industry even though there is now a chronic shortage of eggs still no price increases!!
You need to start firing the ammunition and earning your salary

All very well but You fiddle and waffle while the Free Range Producer is still getting totally un-realistic prices for the Eggs he produces.
I thought your remit would be to obtain a fairer price from the Packers/supermarkets.
I think you are in serious danger of totally missing the point.

Not only that what about the advice you gave in the Ranger during this period of masive expansion for new or expanding producers to put up sheds of at least 16k capacity to be viable. Even the industrial scale 32k units with high levels of automation are now more likely to lose a lot of money than make a bit, is this really free range ?
None of these decisions would have helped the average free range producer but it certainly helped the pullet rearers and feed company directors who did alot more buisness suplying the aditional feed and pullets but who is now paying the price for these decisions egg producers.

Dear John sorry to say I wish you had not rushed into the decision to back the doubling of the stocking density that now has fuelled and made this rapid free range expansion possible that is now sending hardworking producers into financial meltdown, Why did you not take a bit more time and think this one through ?
The enforced depletion that finished a lot of producers off also seemed to be a quick decision.
Are you making these decisions with the average producer in mind or are there ulterior motives ??
Now because no action is being taken to protect producers from this daylight robbery you are now saying you are frightened of making the wrong decision ? well they could not get much worse if past decisions are anything to go by.
Please start to stand up for your members who are currently going bankrupt.

Oops I think Bill Broody has hit a nerve here, you know what they say the truth allways hurts, I dont know about getting out more Bill Allways hits the nail squarely on the head, judging by the accuracy of his comments he gets out plenty perhaps it is you that needs to get out a bit more!!

I think this months Bill Broody needs to get out more! I was not talking about the rare luxury nowadays of a small shop in a rural area possibly supplied by a local producer. I was talking about the hundreds if not thousands of small shops in major towns and cities, often of the 24 hour opening variety, who will get their egg supplies from a wholesaler. These eggs will mainly be imported. Just go and have a look around London and you will see exactly what I was talking about!

Why isnt the first respondant supplying his or her corner shop with their eggs instead of the shop having to buy imported in?

As an independant producer I would agree with Bill Broody that most if not all of the independant corner shops in my area are supplied with local eggs. I have not seen one foreign egg in my area apart from the 10 pack of polish eggs for 99p in Home and Bargain stores? which is a National Multiple.
Local eggs are received well and most local stores support the supply direct to them , as do their customers both on taste and price.

I have to say that in my area the local shops do not sell local eggs. Up until the 1st Jan 2012 they were sold for £2.00 a tray of 30 and came from Poland. Not sure where they come from now but it is not local farms, the price has gone up to £2.95 a tray since the 1st Jan.

Noble will not be happy till they rule the world they now are discrediting the hardworking corner shop owners and there suppliers which in my experience are some of the best freshest local eggs sold in Britain a class above the quality sold in the big four major retailers !! Because they cannot take over this market.

Our government are weak, limp & pathetic. They pledge support then do nothing to help us. We should get together on mass & protest. This situation is unacceptable.

Noble foods eye watering profits for 2010 of £24 million whilst there producers lost on average £4 / bird £48 thousand on a 12k flock shows the real figures , They certainly have exploited the oversupply that they engineered there is no doubt about that !!
Tell the truth and shame the devil.

look closer to home ,free range eggs sold as free range when birds are kept locked in thats illegal, needs to be stopped , the company as been reported but nothing done about it

DEFRA what a joke they are.....they will stand idly by while illegal eggs come into the Country.

Strange isnt it that we dont have the money as a Country to police our Borders and consequently any Tom, Dick or Terrorist can arrive here....but we have the money to send the idiot inspectors round Farms to make sure they are not breaking EU stocking density rules !

Funny Old World !!!!!

Pity DEFRA have no plan how to stop illegal cage eggs coming in to this country after the cage ban 1/1/2012.
They certainly are not taking any prisoners with the stocking density changes on British producers, Why can they not be as strict with the illegal cage eggs, what a farce!

Stonegate just released their profit for this year £12.1 million up from £9.7 million last year. Fridays £3.4 million down from £4.5 million last year.
Producers going bankrupt now on a daily basis.

I cannot see the point of blaiming John Bowler. He has been an innovator in free range egg productoin, his vision should be commended. Over production and the plight of the egg producers lies fair and square at the packers door. They sell eggs and should know how many they need to fulfil their markets.A.J.Heath.
